Breast Augmentation in Scottsdale, AZ
Pregnancy, weight loss, and genetics are all reasons why women may have breasts that are smaller than they desire. It’s not uncommon for lifestyle changes to affect breast volume, with many women losing some of their breast size after pregnancy and weight loss. For many women, small breasts rob them of confidence in their body image. Breast augmentation is a cosmetic procedure that uses saline or silicone implants to increase the size and improve the shape of the breasts. If your breasts are not a size that makes you feel attractive and comfortable with your body proportions, breast augmentation may be the procedure for you.

What Can Breast Augmentation Achieve?
Larger, Fuller Breasts
Larger, Fuller Breasts
Pregnancy, weight loss, or nature can all leave women with breasts that they feel are too small. Breast augmentation uses implants to increase the size and improve the shape of your breasts. Larger, shapelier breasts may make you feel sexier and improve your romantic life.
A Balanced Physique
A Balanced Physique
Naturally small or deflated breasts can make body proportions look unbalanced. Breast augmentation can enhance breast volume and restore fullness to make the chest more harmonious with the body and improve your overall figure.
Symmetrical Breasts
Symmetrical Breasts
Asymmetrical breasts are common in women, where one breast is larger than the other. Usually, the discrepancy is minimal, but some women have breasts that differ by a whole cup size or more. Breast augmentation can create breasts of similar sizes, allowing you to feel comfortable in your body.
What Is the Breast Augmentation Procedure Like?
Breast augmentation is an outpatient procedure performed with general anesthesia for the patient’s comfort. Each breast augmentation surgery is fully customized to the patient’s specifications, but generally, the procedure steps are as follows.
On the day of your breast surgery, Dr. Spies will meet with you beforehand and go over the surgical plan once more. You may have the incision locations drawn on your breasts to ensure accuracy. Once you have asked your last-minute questions, you will be placed under anesthesia, and the surgery will begin. Dr. Spies will begin by making precise incisions over the pre-determined area.
Through the incisions, Dr. Spies will separate the breast tissue from the muscle, creating the breast pocket, sometimes called the implant pocket, where the implant will be placed. After implant insertion, he will ensure they are resting appropriately in the pocket, filling the saline breast implants with sterile saltwater, and adjusting the implants to make sure they are symmetrical. Once Dr. Spies is satisfied with the final look, he will carefully close the incisions with precise sutures.
Your breasts will be bandaged with a protective gauze, and you may be placed in a surgical bra for support. You will then be monitored as you awake from anesthesia.
What Can I Expect During Breast Augmentation Recovery?
The average recovery time is about six weeks. Most of your swelling should have resolved by this point, but slight swelling may persist for anywhere from six months to a year after surgery.
It is typical to have scarring at the incision site. If your incision is made along the inframammary fold, the scar will be hidden by your breast tissue. Scarring that occurs around the areola is likely to fade over time. The average time for a scar to heal completely is about one to two years.
The worst of the pain will be present in the first few days following your surgery, during which you will likely experience swelling of the breasts and possibly some mild bruising. Dr. Spies will prescribe medication to help control the pain.
When Will I See My Breast Augmentation Results?
You will notice an immediate change in your breasts after your breast augmentation surgery. Your breasts may be noticeably larger, perhaps more than you expected, due to swelling. Even with a surgical bra and protective gauze, you’ll see a change in your breasts’ size, shape, and even their weight. However, final results take some time to appear as your breast implants settle into your body. As you begin to heal and the swelling goes down, you will be able to get a better idea of what your breasts look like. The healing process for breast augmentation surgery generally takes about six weeks as swelling and bruising dissipate, and the breast implants start to settle in the body.
While you might be feeling like yourself again, the breast implants still have a ways to go before you can see your final, fully healed result. The process of breast implant settling is sometimes called the drop and fluff process. When the breast implants are placed in the implant pocket, the body naturally forms a protective casing of scar tissue around them, and the chest muscles swell around the implants. This can cause the breasts to appear constricted, misshapen, and hard. As the body relaxes around the implants, they will soften to a more natural feel and settle into a lower, more natural position on the chest. This process can take up to six months to complete.
So while you’ll notice some immediate results, your breasts will continue to improve in appearance and feel for months after your procedure.
