Liposuction

Many men and women have unwanted fat on their midsection, arms, lower body, and beneath their chin that are resistant to diet and exercise. Luckily, liposuction—one of the most versatile cosmetic procedures performed—can remove excess fat from any of these areas, creating a sculpted body with more attractive contours and a firmer shape.

What Are the Benefits of Liposuction?

More Clothing Options

Both men and women can feel self-conscious about what they wear due to excess fat that looks as though it is bulging out from underneath their clothes. Liposuction can produce slim contours and provide you with more clothing options that can help you look and feel good in your skin.

Improved Self-Esteem

Many people who struggle with unwanted, stubborn fat find themselves feeling embarrassed about their appearance. Liposuction not only provides you with the figure you have always desired, but it can boost your self-esteem and give you the confidence you need.

Achieved With Liposuction Surgery

A Slimmer Appearance

A Slimmer Appearance

The results of liposuction will not make much of a difference on the scale, but the inches you will lose will have a drastic effect on your physique. Without the extra layer of fat covering your muscles, your natural tone and definition will show through, leaving you with a firmer, slimmer appearance. Liposuction combined with tummy tuck surgery can trim away excess fat and skin and reveal muscle definition for a more toned appearance.

Defined Waist and Lower Body

Defined Waist and Lower Body

The most popular areas for liposuction include the abdomen and thighs. You can choose to treat your waist and around your back to get an hourglass shape or increase firmness in your thighs by choosing outer or inner thigh liposuction.

Sculpted Chin, Arms, and Back

Sculpted Chin, Arms, and Back

The chin, arms, and back are other popular areas for liposuction. You can get rid of a “double chin” that resulted from weight gain or genetics. You can sculpt your arms to show off your muscle tone, and you can get rid of pesky “bra fat” and other unwanted bulges on your back for a completely streamlined look.

What Are My Liposuction Procedure Options?

Tumescent Liposuction

Tumescent liposuction is a surgical technique that injects a tumescent fluid into the treatment area before a small tube known as a cannula is inserted into the incision. The fluid breaks up the fat deposits, making it easier for Dr. Spies to remove them. Injecting the tumescent fluid can also help minimize bruising, swelling, and discomfort.

Ultrasound-assisted Lipoplasty (UAL)

Ultrasound-assisted liposuction is used to treat difficult areas of the body, such as the back, abdomen, or previously treated areas. During your procedure, the device will use ultrasonic energy to liquefy unwanted fatty deposits to allow for easier removal. This minimizes postoperative bruising, and the ultrasonic heat promotes skin contraction. Ultrasound-assisted liposuction is ideal for patients with minor skin laxity.

Concerns

Recovery Icon Recovery

Following your surgery, you may be advised to wear a compression garment to reduce swelling and speed the healing process. Most patients take one week off from work and feel well enough to do routine activities after one or two weeks. Swelling may be present for several weeks, although complete healing takes around six months. Typically, exercise and other strenuous activities can be resumed after six weeks.

Scars Icon Scars

Since the incisions for liposuction are tiny, usually only a quarter of an inch, the resulting scars will be the same length. They are typically placed in inconspicuous areas and fade significantly with time.

Pain Icon Pain

Liposuction is performed under general anesthesia, so you will not experience any pain during the operation. However, you will feel moderate discomfort during your recovery. Dr. Spies will prescribe medication to help alleviate the pain and keep you comfortable.

Cost Icon Cost

According to the most recent statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the national average surgeon fee for liposuction is $3,518. This number will vary depending on the geographic location of the procedure, the technique chosen, and the extent of fat removed. A higher price does not necessarily equal better results; the best results can be achieved by undergoing the procedure with an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon.

FAQs

Am I a good candidate for liposuction?

Candidates interested in liposuction must be in good health, non-smokers, and close to their ideal weight. During your consultation, you will discuss your health history and desires for the procedure with Dr. Spies and decide the best approach together.

What results can I expect following my liposuction procedure?

You can expect long-lasting results that will leave your figure looking slim and toned. Make sure to stick to a well-balanced diet and regular exercise routine to maintain your results for years to come.

When can I start driving again?

Patients should have someone drive them home and take care of them for at least the first day following their surgery, as bending and walking may be difficult. Depending on your surgery, patients should be well enough to drive the day after their procedure unless instructed otherwise by their surgeon.

Are there any risks or side effects involved with liposuction?

Liposuction is normally a safe procedure. However, as with most surgeries, there may be some risks involved. Our surgeons will evaluate your overall health and counsel you so you can make an informed decision.
